Historical Significance
- Brazil earned its first of three victories. It became the first territory whose official language wasn't Spanish to win the contest.
- Spain and Peru both placed for the third consecutive time.
- Chile also placed in 1993.
- Bolivia, Brazil and Mexico last placed in 1991.
- Chile earned its highest placement ever.
- Mexico earned its highest placement, second runner-up, since winning in 1987. As of 2011, this would remain as Mexico's highest placement since winning, matched in 1996 and 2010.
- Although technically matching its (to that point) highest placement of fifth place, because of format changes, Bolivia did not become a finalist.
- Venezuela last placed in 1992.
